Consistent service, as usual

This was my third time ordering from Brill. I got an "Asian Studies Journal" and, like before, the process was smooth. The digital access was instant and I didn't run into any issues. Their reliability is why I keep coming back for these specialized texts.

Good deal on an ebook

I was looking for a specific book for my research, the "Philosophy Monographs" series. I signed up for the newsletter and got a discount code for 20% off. It made the ebook much more affordable than buying the print version from somewhere else. Felt like a solid purchase.

Got my history book

Needed a book from their "Early Modern History" collection for a class. Ordered it, and it showed up pretty quick, maybe five days? Came in good shape. It was exactly what I needed, no fuss. Happy with it.

Smooth order for my research

I ordered a print copy of a "Classical Studies Text" for a project. The ordering process on their site was straightforward enough, found the book easily with their search. Shipping took about a week, which was expected for international, and the book arrived well-packaged, no damage. The quality of the binding and paper was good, definitely built to last which is important for a reference book. I haven't had to use customer support, but everything went without a hitch so I wouldn't anticipate any problems there either. Overall, a reliable experience for academic resources.

Any chance of a discount code for current books? I saw something about conference discounts, but I'm not going to any.

M Mark 2 months ago
Conference codes are really specific, unfortunately. Your best bet is signing up for their newsletter or waiting for a seasonal sale.

Sometimes they have back-to-school offers in Sept/Oct, keep an eye out around then.

Anyone know if there's a student discount for ebooks or something? Or like, a newsletter sign-up deal?

R Rachel Foster 2 months ago
I think I got 20% off when I signed up for their newsletter once. Might still be active.

Student discounts are pretty rare outside of specific conference codes. Check if your university library has institutional access, that's often the best bet.

Hey, how do Brill's books compare to, say, Routledge or OUP? Is the quality similar for scholarly works?

T Tom 2 months ago
Brill is definitely up there with OUP and Cambridge. They're all pretty much the gold standard for academic publishing, especially in humanities.

I'd say Brill is more specialized than Routledge, maybe even a bit more prestigious in certain niche fields. You're getting solid research.

Is it possible to just buy a single article from a Brill journal, or do I have to subscribe to the whole thing?

E Emma 2 months ago
Yeah, I'm pretty sure you can buy individual articles. I've done it before for a paper.

You can usually purchase them as PDFs directly from the journal page, no need for a full subscription just for one.

Are Brill books generally pretty legit? I'm seeing a few titles I want but the prices are kinda high, just want to make sure it's not some weird reprint.

D Daisy B. 2 months ago
Totally legit. Brill is super old school academic publishing, like top tier for scholarly stuff. Definitely not fake.

They've been around since the 1600s, so yeah, you're getting the real deal. High quality stuff for sure.
